As a young Beauceron of Eure and Loire origin, our father left in 1964 at the age of 21 to buy a farm (cereals and poultry) in Tonnerre in the Yonne area. In 1980, Mr. Creuseveau, from whom we rented certain lands, told us that the terrain where we were cultivating wheat was eligible for AOC Chablis. Our father made the switch and what a switch! He who knew nothing about vines, would plant 9 hectares of Petit Chablis to start, and then acquire vines in AOC Chablis (3.70 hectares) and AOC Chablis 1er Cru Vaucoupin (1 hectare). Not only content to produce, our father wanted to vinifiy and merchandise. A vat room for vinification and an area for labeling followed. From 1987, my borother Paterne took over part of the farm work and work in the vineyard after viticultural training in Beaune. |
In 1998, on July 12, France won the World Cup, Paterne celebrated his 33rd birthday and on the 1st of October, against all expectations, I began work. My father had declared the following: "Baudouin if you want to come to work, it is now or never".Quite simply in part because our father was looking forward to an early retirement and with the technical knowledge in agriculture, viniculture and oenology required, the perfect opportunity presented itself for me to pursue professional training. Therefore, our father passed the company on to us March 1, 2002 and, as planned, reduced his work level. Baudouin Millet |
